“Putting things off is the biggest waste of life: it snatches away each day as it comes, and denies us the present by promising the future. The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately.”
Seneca, On the Shortness of Life

More bears and a bobcat...

We had a little scare the last week or so.  While Mary's sister Pam and her husband Steve were visiting, we saw a large black bear making its way across our meadow.  He was obviously injured, dragging his right rear leg and struggling to walk.  We were concerned that it might be Handsome and didn't know if the injury was super-serious or an issue that would heal itself without long-term damage.  Handsome has been our neighbor for a few years now and is our favorite bear.  We'd be devastated if something bad happened to him...

I went up and checked the cameras and got some footage of a bear that we think is Handsome.  I can't be sure because our boy doesn't have any real distinguishing markings.  His perfect coat is why we call him Handsome.  This black bear does have a bit of a mark on his right rear.  That could make him a different bear, or it could be the damage done if it was a hurt Handsome we saw dragging his right rear leg a couple of weeks ago.

He looks to be about the same size as Handsome, has a similar face and that perfect coat (except for the new mark on his backside).  I'm hoping it's him.  Handsome with a little scar on his butt is better than no Handsome at all...
We had a couple of new bears wander through this past week.  The first video is a bear I'm calling "Trouble," as in "Here comes trouble."  He's a big bear and looks like he means business.  I'm wondering if he and Handsome got into a little scrape when Trouble first came around.  This is Handsome's realm, and I doubt he'd be happy about a new male making himself at home here...
It's my pleasure to introduce "Blondie."  This bear has nice blonde highlights in her coat, and like our old friend Baloo, appears to enjoy a bath every now and then.  Though I believe this bear to be female, part of her cleansing routine is not very ladylike (apologies to those offended).

In any case, she's kind of pretty and I hope she sticks around a while.
I've seen this bobcat around more frequently lately.  Finally got a nice video of him at the water hole.  He's really a good looking cat...
Finally, we've got our weekly visits from Baloo and Crash.  Baloo bathes, of course, while Crash stops by for a nervous drink of water.  Always good to see them on video...
