“Putting things off is the biggest waste of life: it snatches away each day as it comes, and denies us the present by promising the future. The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately.”
Seneca, On the Shortness of Life

It's getting toward fall in the mountains, so we're seeing a bit more activity out there.  In addition to my weekly bear sightings, I've also got some elk and mule deer this week.

When it comes to mule deer, we don't typically see them much of the year and when we do, it's usually a couple of does and maybe a fawn or two.  The bucks we see are usually smaller; the more mature boys tend to hang out elsewhere.  We got a great surprise when we saw these guys wander through...
In this next video, we see a number of elk bulls around the stock tank.  Two have bellied up to the bar for a drink from the water we provide while their brothers in antlers feast on the thick meadow grasses.  Take a look at the left antler worn by the bull on the right side of the tank.  It looks like he's already broken it.  That'll put him at a serious disadvantage when sparring with other bulls during the coming rut...
This elk bull has unique antlers.  While we usually look for symmetry, this non-typical pair would be a great trophy.  I hope he makes it through this year's hunting season and drops that fancy bling right by my stock tank...
We've spotted a new little bear near the water hole.  My grandkids named it "Godzilla" due to the blond stripe on his back.  I don't quite get the reference, but we're going with it anyway.  If you understand it, please enlighten me in the comments...
In this last one, we have an adult male who appears to have just one eye.  I'm going to assume that it's the new boar we're calling "Trouble" - the one who tangled with Handsome a few weeks back - because he looks similar and the one eye suggests a fighter.  You get a clear view of his face toward the end of the video.  This is one scary looking bear; hope I don't run into him out on the trail...
