“Putting things off is the biggest waste of life: it snatches away each day as it comes, and denies us the present by promising the future. The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately.”
Seneca, On the Shortness of Life

Snow coming...

The National Weather Service has been playing mind games with us all week.  First they told us that we had a major spring storm coming, with models showing feet of snow expected this weekend.  Then they adjusted, saying that the snow was tracking north of us; under this model, we'd only get an inch or two.  The last day or so, they're back to saying we can get quite a bit.  This morning's winter weather warning guesses we might get anywhere from 6-21 inches between this afternoon and Monday morning.  I'm hoping it's closer to 21 - we could use all the moisture we can get - but I'll believe it when I see it.

Because heavy snow is predicted, I went out and swapped out the trailcam cards to see if we had any action in the last week or so.  The results were disappointing.  Not a lot of action our there, though we did have a herd of about 100 elk wander through on Feb 27.  These first two videos show the herd gathering in the meadow (note: the date on the camera is incorrect; I forgot to update it last time I changed batteries and will fix that next time)...
One of the elk decided to play art director here.  This camera is normally pointed toward the stock tank so that I can get video of wildlife stopping by for a drink.  This gal thinks the meadow is a better view, so moves the camera (presumably with her nose) and lines up a shot of the herd with the mountains in the background.  Not bad!!

Very cool, Rick! You and Mary must enjoy having the wildlife so close to you. We often get deer in our yard, but since they love to feast on my garden, I’m training Baxter to chase them away. He’s learning pretty quickly! I saw an owl in the marsh next to our property last week and then heard him during the night. That’s only the second time in all the years we’ve lived here. Hope you and Mary are doing well!

Thanks, Diane!

We do love having the wildlife close by and it's always a thrill when we see them outside our windows. It'll never get old...

We have owls, too, but don't see them that often. We hear them a lot at night and every once in a while we'll see them on a post or tree while driving in the evening. Haven't had one visit the house in a long time, though.

Keep checking the site; spring through fall are typically the best times for wildlife (and wildlife videos) out here...
